Our story

A light on, because we've all been there

Homehavens wasn't dreamed up in an office. It comes from knowing, first-hand, what it's like to be between homes — and believing nobody should have to choose between an unaffordable short-let, someone's sofa on borrowed goodwill, or nowhere at all.

Our mission

Everyone has in-between moments: a tenancy that ends before the next begins, a relationship that finishes, a sale that falls through, a new city with nothing lined up. Those moments are stressful enough without the roof being in question. Homehavens exists to take the stress out of the in-between — a safe, fairly-priced room, from someone kind, for three days to a month, without charity and without exploitation.

From the founder

I come from a working-class background, and I've lived the problem this platform solves. I've been between homes. I've lived in vans and in communities. I've watched friends go through the same gap — the scramble, the stress, the quiet indignity of having nowhere settled while life reorganises itself.

My working life has been broad rather than corporate — I've been a musician, a builder, a sole trader, and a traveller. What all of that teaches you is to be practical, self-reliant, and good with people. Homehavens is those lessons, pointed at the problem I know best.

It starts in Bristol — my city — with hosts we meet personally, one conversation at a time. And who knows — maybe a stay leads to a flourishing friendship, or a future tenancy with someone you really get on with. Once we prove it works here, it can work everywhere.

— Theodore, founder of Homehavens

What we believe

Dignity over pity

You're a guest paying your own way, never a charity case. A good stay earns you a reference, not a favour owed.

Affordability, enforced

Every listing is capped at or below the city's average room rate. It's a rule in our code, not a hope in our copy.

The money is the safety

Meet first. Your first week is only held until you both sign. Hosts are paid weekly in arrears. There's always protection in the middle.

Honesty about risk

Vetting reduces risk — it can't remove it, and we'll never pretend otherwise. We're not an emergency service, and we say so plainly.
